Winter Walk Series | No. 3 Landscape Inspired Ceramic Wall Piece
This is one of a series of four small abstract ceramic paintings inspired by walks around the landscape where I live. My interest is in layering colour, texture and mark making through the medium of ceramics. The base clay is a textured terracotta clay which lends itself well to these flat painterly pieces. The rolled clay is printed onto, scored into and painted over repeatedly using coloured slips. The soft clay gives under gentle pressure and creates relief. As this is printed over again a contrast in colour and pattern is revealed. Further richness and depth is added with the application of different glazes for a second firing which adds further qualities to the finished piece. The painting is mounted onto a small varnished wooden panel which allows the piece to stand away slightly from the wall.
These work well alone or as a group.
